Embrace Iowa distributes $690,000

The 2008 Iowa Disaster Collaborative has granted an additional $690,000 from the Embrace Iowa: 2008 Iowa Disaster Fund. The local community-based organizations throughout Iowa received funding for victim relief, capacity building efforts for nonprofits, and small business recovery. This distribution brings the total amount of grant awards to $1,115,000.

Embrace Iowa’s private fundraising efforts have secured nearly $5.5 million directly from individuals and corporations residing in and outside Iowa, and from numerous special events.

“We are excited to have the mechanisms in place to begin distributing funds to those communities in need. These funds are intended to fill the financial gaps not being met by other funding sources, and we are pleased to be able to assist,” said Pat Baird, president and chief executive officer of Aegon USA and a member of the Collaborative. Dan Baldwin, President of the Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation added, “The Embrace Iowa initiative is critical in the recovery efforts statewide. We are very pleased they are providing such wonderful support to Linn County.”
